Setting up Dial-Up Networking to access Warp 8 from Windows 95/98

Here's how to set up the Windows 95/98 Dial-Up Networking to access Internet through Warp 8.


Step 1: Make sure Dial-Up Networking is installed 
1. Click the Start button and choose Settings, Control Panel. 
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. 
3. Select the Windows Setup tab. 
4. Single-click Communications, then click Details. 
5. The "Dial-Up Networking" item should be checked. If it isn't, check it. 
You may be prompted for your Windows95 or 98 Disks or CD-ROM. Provide the disk and click 
OK. 
Note: The following steps assume you already have the Dial-Up Networking installed. 

Step 2: Make sure the Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial-Up Adapter, and TCP/IP Protocol are 
installed 
1. Click the Start button and choose Settings, Control Panel. 
2. Double-click Network. 
3. Verify that "Client for Microsoft Networks" is listed. If it isn't: 

  • Click Add. 

  • Double-click Client. 

  • Select Microsoft. 

  • Select "Client for Microsoft Networks". 

  • Click OK. 

  • You may be prompted for your Windows95 Disks or CD-ROM. Provide the disk and 
    click OK. 

4. Verify the Dial-Up Adapter is present. If it isn't:

  • Click Add. 

  • Double-click Adapter. 

  • Scroll down the list and select Microsoft. 

  • Choose the Dial-Up Adapter and click OK. 

  • You may be prompted for your Windows95 or 98 Disks or CD-ROM. Provide the disk 
    and click OK. 

5. Verify the TCP/IP Protocol is present. If it isn't:

  •  Click Add. 

  •  Double-click Protocol. 

  •  Scroll down the list and select Microsoft. 

  •  Choose TCP/IP and click OK. 

  • You may be prompted for your Windows95 or 98 Disks or CD-ROM. Provide the disk 
    and click OK. 


6. Click OK until you are asked to restart the system. After you restart, proceed to the next 
step. 

Step 3: Setting up the connection 

1. Double-click My Computer. 
2. Double-click Dial-Up Networking. 

3. If you already have one Dial-Up connection, click New Connection. 

4. If you have never run Dial-up networking before, double-click "Dial-Up Networking 
Wizard". Type in the name of Warp 8 for the name of the computer you want to connect 
to. For example, "My Warp 8 connection" or just "Warp 8". 

5. Your modem should already be displayed under "select a device". If it isn't, consult your 
Windows95 or Windows98 documentation for information on how to set up your modem 
for use with Windows95 or 98 

6. Click Next. 

7. Type the phone number for your local provider access point. These numbers for Denver 
are 303-376-0038, 303-381-0136, 303-409-0021. You can select any one of these.

8. Click Next. 

9. Click Finish. 

10. Single-click the newly created dial-up icon with the right mouse button, and select 
Properties. 


11. In the Phone Number section, make sure the Use Country Code and Area Code options 
are checked and you have entered your area code. This is necessary if you want to use the 
Disable Call Waiting option. Click Server Type. Make sure that ten digit dialing works. 


12. The Type of Dial-Up Server should be set to "PPP: Windows95, Windows98, 
WindowsNT 3.5, Internet" 


13. In the Advanced Options section, make sure that: 

  • Enable Software Compression is checked. 

  •  "Log On to Network" is not checked. 

  •  Require Encrypted Password is not checked. 


14. Under Allowed Network Protocols:

  • TCP/IP should be the only protocol enabled. 

  • Disable IPX and NetBUEI. 

15. Select TCP/IP Settings. 

  •  Make sure Server Assigned IP Address is selected. 

  •  Make sure Server Assigned name server addresses is selected.

  • Leave the Primary and Secondary WINS configuration at 0.0.0.0

 
16. Use IP Header Compression should be checked. 
17. "Use Default Gateway on Remote Network" should be checked. 
18. Click OK twice. 


Step 4: Connecting to Warp 8! 


1. Go to the My Computer Icon on your desktop and double click it. 
2. Double click the dial up networking icon. 
3. Double click the Warp 8 connection. 
4. Enter you Warp 8 assigned User_id and Password. Then click dial and then you modem 
should dial and get you connected. Note: Be sure your user name includes 
@warp8.com, i.e. yourname@warp8.com.



Step 5: Checking For 10-Digit Dialing  (Windows 98)

1. Double click the Modems icon in the control panel (Click start, then Settings).
2. Now click the Dialing Properties button:
3. Click the Area Code Rules button:
4. Click the Always dial the area code (10-digit dialing) check box. 
5. Click OK, OK, Close (closes all three windows).
